Day care centres

San Lucas

SAMU has taken part in caring for persons with intellectual disability since 2008, when it opened its first Day Care Centre (San Lucas), located in Andalusia. This centre is now one of the Psycho-social Care resources included in the subsidised services provided pursuant to Law 39/2006 of 14 December, on the promotion of personal autonomy and care for dependent persons in Spain, arranged with the Department of Equality and Social Policies of the Regional Government of Andalusia.

The main mission of the San Lucas Day Care Centre is to reduce and eliminate the behavioural disorders of its users through specialised, personalised and comprehensive treatment for both users and their families. To that end it has an interdisciplinary team that uses a biopsychosocial approach in order to:

  1. Improve the quality of life of the users and their families.
  2. Increase and improve the personal autonomy and social skills of the users.
  3. Promote greater personal satisfaction among the users and their families.
  4. Foster social relations between the users, between the users and their families and between the users and the community.

The Centre has facilities that provide physical space to guarantee the protection and security of the users, covering the basic needs of accommodation, board and assistance in basic and instrumental activities of daily life as well as a wide range of organised activities such as special workshops that are in keeping with the tastes of the users. Along with these workshops and activities, the users can take part in guided outings to visit monuments and sites of artistic interest, events and meetings with other similar organisations, as well as many leisure outings to different sites.
